RAYA UNIVERSITY AND SPACE SCIENCE AND GEOSPATIAL INSTITUTE (SSGI) SIGNED MoU FOR PROVISION OF SATELLITE DATA

Raya University signed MoU with Space Science Geospatial Institute (SSGI) for the Provision of Satellite Data for dissemination of Knowledge and insights on December 23, 2024.
The agreement was signed between Nega Afera (Ph.D), Academic, Research, Technology Transfer and Community Service Vice President of RU and Bethelehem Niguse, Deputy Director General of SSGI.
The agreement focuses on establishing a dedicated center for cooperation in satellite remote sensing applications between Raya University as Data Receiver and SSGI as data provider.
The purpose of the agreement is to outline the responsibilities, obligations and procedures for the secure transfer of data from the Data Provider (SSGI), to the Data Recipient (RU). The data to be transferred encompasses various types, including but not limited to raw satellite data, level -I satellite data and level-II satellite data.
The scope of the provision of the satellite image data can be utilized solely for research and educational purpose.
The agreement ensures that the transfer process is conducted securely and in accordance with the defined procedures and protocols. The satellite image data provided under this Agreement will have a high resolution, from 8-meter to- 2-meter spatial resolution and will be shared exclusively with the territorial boundaries of Ethiopia.
The agreement is believed to have a fabulous advantage in advancing the field of Space Science and Geo-spatial Technology since it opens up favorable opportunities for the university, serving as a hub for research and development efforts and other stakeholders to provide and explore the potential application and benefits of quality satellite data of LASC satellite imagery across various sectors.
