A Message from the Dean of School of Law

I welcome everyone to the collaborative environment of RU School of Law. The Law School works for the advancement of the legal education of the country by providing equitable, accessible and quality legal education through teaching, research and community service engagements. It has proved these visions since its inception.

The school has been and is preparing competent and responsible members of the legal profession who actively contribute towards rule of law, democracy, human rights, justice and equality.

The school’s primary Core values that will never be compromised are: Integrity, Pluralism, High Regard for Work, and team spirit.

The school is well known for its Free Legal Aid Service Center, which provides free legal services for vast number of the disadvantaged section of the society especially in the Southern Zone of Tigray. Its collaboration with governmental justice sectors and non-governmental organizations is promising and has helped our students in their clinical programs. Many more is coming from the Law School and I suggest you that the School is your home to learn, work and grow!

Raya University School of Law

Raya University School of Law was established in 2017, and it has the following: mission, vision, objectives, core values, strategic outlooks, facts and figures, and staff members.

  1. Mission

The mission of our School of Law is to advance the intellectual and social conditions of the people by providing equitable, accessible, and quality legal education through teaching, research, and service. This aims to prepare competent and responsible members of the legal profession who actively contribute towards the rule of law, democracy, human rights, good governance, social justice, equality, tolerance, and development.

  1. Vision

The vision of our School of Law is to elevate the standard and quality of legal education to the level of leading law schools in Ethiopia by 2020 E.C., and to prepare graduates who will have an optimum impact on Ethiopia’s development, democracy, rule of law, good governance, and social justice.

  1. Objectives

Our Law School has the following objectives:

3.1. Provide legal education that is in tune with the values, principles, and policies enshrined in the FDRE Constitution and regional constitutions, as well as international legal instruments.

3.2. Produce graduates with legal knowledge and skills that enable them to serve the country with critical, analytical, and creative ability, as well as professional responsibility.

3.3. Create and sustain a close network with all stakeholders, including government, business, and alumni, to ensure their participation in shaping teaching, research, and service.

3.4. Strive to develop and disseminate mechanisms for the prevention and resolution of disputes through compromise, mediation, and other dispute resolution methods.

3.5. Teach and conduct research and provide services that enhance equality and are free from any racial, religious, sexual, political, and other kinds of discrimination.

3.6. Provide legal education, community service, and undertake research that is compatible with the needs and development of the country.

  1. Core Values

4.1. Excellence: Give high regard to demonstrating individual and organizational excellence in undertaking teaching, research, and community service.

4.2. Efficiency: Use time, material, and human resources efficiently. Design ways and means to reduce costs and avoid wastage of resources. Resolve complaints quickly and fairly, and record them appropriately.

4.3. Commitment to Quality Public Service: Aspire and commit to give relevant and need-based quality service to the public by appropriately using resources and putting in place different guidelines and monitoring mechanisms for ensuring quality services.

4.4. Integrity: Perform duties and exercise rights with full integrity, sincerity, and honesty; speak up against any actual, planned, or potential behavior in breach of laws, regulations, or standards. Have the integrity to admit mistakes.

4.5. Transparency: Perform all tasks, goals, and objectives of the Law School openly, clearly, and with proper guidelines.

4.6. Confidentiality: Respect the rules governing confidentiality of information and data protection.

4.7. Accountability: Take full responsibility for assigned roles and duties. Respect the laws, regulations, and standards. Submit to evaluation, monitoring, and external review.

4.8. Rule of Law: Whatever your position, accept the supremacy of law over men. Whenever you can, impress the virtue of the rule of law upon your colleagues, students, and other members of the Law School community.

4.9. Equality: Treat all human beings with the spirit of equality and fairness without discrimination based on race, religion, gender, national origin, or other grounds.

The Strategic Outlook of Raya University School of Law is to proactively contribute to Ethiopia’s legal landscape and socio-economic development by fostering excellence in legal education and research. This will be achieved through a commitment to quality, accessibility, and ethical conduct, as well as through active engagement with stakeholders and community needs.
