USAID and Kansas State University Delegation Mission to Raya and Mekelle Universities has Successfully Completed.

Raya and Mekelle Universities hosted three days visit by delegates of USAID-Ethiopia (Dr. Yirgalem Gebremeskel) and Kansas State University (Prof. Dr. Vara Prasad and Dr. Araya Alemie Berhe) within the framework of “Capacity Building of Ethiopian Agricultural Universities” Project funded by USAID under Feed the Future Innovation Lab. for Sustainable Intensification.
Representatives of the Ethiopian consortium Universities (Raya, Mekelle, Jimma, Arba Minch, Bahir Dar and Jigjiga Universities) also accompanied the Kansas State University and USAID delegation during the visit and discussions.
The delegation visited ongoing activities funded by the project at Raya and Mekelle Universities including: Established Virtual Room Facilities; Established Soil-Plant-Water lab facilities; Field Research, Demonstration, and Seed Multiplication Activities; and Drip Irrigation and Fruit and Vegetable Demonstration Sites.
Prof. Dr. Vara Prasad, leader of the project, appreciated the work accomplished by the project and thanked the Ethiopian consortium members for their dedication, excellence, hard work and delivery. He also advised the six Ethiopian Universities to work together as a team in enhancing the socio-economic development of their country.
At the end of the successful mission, Raya, Mekelle, Jimma, Arba Minch, Bahir Dar and Jigjiga Universities signed a Consortium Agreement aimed at “Contributing to National Development through Quality Education, Cutting-Edge and Adaptive Research, Technologies, Innovation, and Providing Consultancy and Community Services, in Effective Collaboration and Partnership among Members and with their Networks.”
